The Problem:
Artists with little recognition but worthy of a vast amount more than they receive. Some don't like to join groups. Some have only just joined dA and are new. Whatever the reason, this is a problem when all someone needs to create in order to get on the front page is a fan drawing of some popular series that may or may not take any degree of talent to finish.
I'm not here to comment on anyone else's opinion of art. But I do see a problem when groups will automatically +fav any drawing submitted by a member regardless of aspects such as creativity, originality, and skill. The concept of dA should be based around helping aspiring artists, not a e-popularity contest. There are a lot of popular deviants that are skilled, original, and creative. They deserve the recognition that they receive. However, the spotlight should be shed on others as well.
The Solution:
This is the most I can do. Think of it as "sharing". I put up a link to a deviant every week whom I think is deserving of some attention and has, as yet, received little. If you have comments to make on their deviations, go nuts. If you feel something is worthy of a +fav addition, then add it. Don't comment just because you feel you should. Don't +fav out of obligation. But please visit the link and take a look around. And if you like the idea, do the same thing. We're here to help each other grow as artists. Maybe someday we'll pick up a comic book, or browse an art gallery, and see the work of friends we've helped along the way. Maybe not. But this, in its own small way, is a step in the right direction.
At least, that's what I think.
